Brown Hill was a small mining community the other side of Kalgoorlie. Now covered with mullock heaps of the new open cuts, this township and its people are recorded by the author who was born and bred in this forgotten goldfields village.

Amy Moore (nee Weir) was born in West Perth in September 1908, but early in 1909 her parents moved with her to live in Brown Hill in the Easter Goldfields of Western Australia, where they opened a general store. They were there until late 1917 when the family moved again for two years to a farm at Maya on the Wongan Hills line. While living elsewhere now, Mrs Moore continues to look on Western Australia as "home", and never loses an opportunity to look again as the "ghost town" which was Brown Hill, which still brings back many happy memories.
