If you had family living in Victoria in 1930s, have you thought of looking at the Police Gazettes for information? These are a historian's goldmine of information. Compiled to be distributed amongst the Police Force only, these Gazettes contain details and information that can not be found anywhere else. Far from just listing those who were in the Police Force, or those that were on the 'wrong side' of the law - you will also find entries of missing persons, or they might be a witness to crime, or they may have had something stolen from them, or they may even have found an item, and reported it to the Police.

Of course you also get weekly information on housebreaking, robberies, arson, murders, lost horses and cattle, deserters, escaped prisoners and reports on those released ... as well as some information from interstate police gazettes. This contains images of all issues of the Victoria Police Gazette for 1930.

Prohibited Immigrant
MELBOURNE.-23.1.30.-Tough, Mary S., alias Tannock, alias Mrs. Buckley.-A deportation order under the Immigration Act has been issued by the Minister of Home Affairs, under which authority the offender can be detained pending deportation, against Mar S. Tough, alias Tannock, alias Mrs. Buckley. Description:-A Scotch immigrant, 24 years, 5 ft 1 in., dark-brown bobbed hair, brown or hazel eyes, long pointed nose, speaks with a Scottish accent; when last seen was dressed in a bright saxe-blue dress, saxe-blue felt hat with gold band, light stockings, and black shoes. She has a baby girl 5 1/2 months old. Offender was an inmate of the Fairhaven V.D. and left there without authority. Owing to the state of her health, he arrest and deportation is urgentl desired. Supposed to be about Melbourne and suburbs.-.O.3203. 5th February, 1930.
