This history of Clan Grant was designed so that it could be made available to many within the clan who were unable to obtain copies of the much more comprehensive and expensive The Chiefs of Grant by Sir William Fraser. That monumental work, published in 1883, had a limited run of only 150 copies.

This history was published in a larger run and at a more modest price. Its focus was the Lairds of Grant, the chiefs of the clan, who became Earls of Seafield and who through inheritance acquired the lands of the Ogilvies and the earldom of Findlater. It begins with an account of the origin of the family and its first feudal members in the 13th and subsequent centuries. It continues through the Reformation, the civil wars of the 17th century, the many Jacobite rebellions, and on into the late 19th century.

Included are histories as well of the Grants of Ballindalloch and Dalvey, the Grants of Corriemony and Shewglie, Grants of Glenmoriston, Carron and Wester Elchies, the Grants of Monymusk and Arndilly, Rothiemurchus, Kinchurdie, Gellovie, Knockando and Gartinbeg. Overall this is a substantial historical and genealogical account of a major Scottish family.

This CD consists of scans of the whole of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
