The author (Gus Luck), arrived in Western Australia at a propitious time in its history - the start of the Western Australian gold rush. Although his early experiences were unrelated to gold, they provided him with the knowledge and experience as well as the desire to participate in this Western Australia's most famous 'rush' at a time when the eastern goldfields were really hitting its straps.

In 'The Outback trail', Luck has provided us with some wonderful insights and some very amusing anecdotes. His sensitivity to his fellow men - including the aborigines - and to the outback environment is expressed in a simple and concise style, all the more pleasing for its lack of embellishments.

Gus is one of Western Australia's most experienced bushmen, writes of his life and experiences in the bush, camels, natives, prospecting, people etc. in a fascinating story of the 1880's to 1930's.
