The full title of this publication is "The Mackintosh Muniments 1442-1820, Preserved in the Charter Room at Moy Hall, Inverness-shire. Edited and abridged by Henry Paton, and originally published in 1903, this 214 pages work has now been released on CD-ROM for the first time.
Like other great Highland families, the Mackintoshes preserved records relating to marriage contracts, land transfers, loan arrangements, and a multitude of other legal documents dating, in this case, from the 15th through the early 19th century. These documents are presented individually, with details of the transaction to which they applied, and with the names of those who were involved, either for or against the Mackintosh chief.
The preponderance of names relate to Mackintosh, the families involved in the Clan Chattan Confederation, and the great and small families holding land adjacent to or involved with the Mackintoshes.
Among the names most often cited (other than those of the Chattan Confederation) are: Baillie, Bayne, Chisholm, Clark, Cumming, Cuthbert, Dean, Duff, Dunbar, Fraser, Gordon, Graham, Grant, Hay, Innes, Leslie, M'Conechy, M'Ean, M'Ewin, Mackenzie, MacLeod, MacMartin, MacQueen, MacThomas, MacWilliam, Menzies, Munro, Rose, Ross, Sutherland, Waus, and Winchester. This compilation of documents and extracts is most useful to those researching areas in and around the Mackintosh lands or directly relating to Mackintosh and Clan Chattan.
