Mackenzie, one of the finest genealogical historians of the 19th century, here turned his attention to the MacDonalds of Glengarry, one of the major branches of Clan Donald - a branch whose lineage and succession was one of the most hotly debated of the age.

The book begins with a discussion of Glengarry's position in the larger Clan Donald. The Glengarry line is descended from Reginald or Ranald, the eldest surviving son of John, 1st Lord of the Isles, and progenitor of both the MacDonalds of Glengarry and of all the MacDonalds known as Clanranalds.

The chronicle continues through to 1660, when the family is permanently changed from Macdonald to Macdonell, and on into the late 19th century and the chiefship of AEneas Ranald, the 27th Chief. There is as well a study of the lineage of the Macdonnells of Scotus.

This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
