'The Lamont Clan, 1235-1935: Seven Centuries of Clan History from Record Evidence' written by Hector McKechnie, is a mammoth collection of this family's history.
In over 600 pages this history of the Lamont Clan extends over seven hundred years and 21 Chiefs. It is a work of solid scholarship, dedicated to the history of this Argyll family, through the good as well as the difficult centuries. It begins with an account of the Lamonts in the 12th century, and then proceeds to discuss the subsequent Chiefs, the affairs of the clan over many centuries, and the state of the Lamonts by the end of the 19th century.
Then the author turns to the cadet lines, including among others, the Lamonts of Monydrain, Ardlamont, Ascog and Knockdow, continuing to the Lamonts of Fife, Yorkshire and elsewhere. The author seeks to include all major cadet lines and to provide as thorough a history of this family as possible.
