The island of Skye is the largest of the Hebridean islands, and without question is the one which has the most mystique or reputation, both for its rich history and for its Celtic/Viking culture. It is a well written history which unfolds over the centuries, tracing the interaction of the island increasingly with the government slowly developing in Edinburgh and showing the consequences of the incorporation of the island into what would become Scotland.
