Written by Alexander Morrison, and originally published in 1905, "The Blackhalls of that Ilk and Barra: Hereditary Coroners and Foresters of the Garioch" is the history of an Aberdeenshire family long associated with the Garioch region in the old earldom of Mar.
This area was desired by the Erskines, who claimed the lands of the earldom of Mar, and the Baclkhalls were engaged in numerous suits relating to their lands in the Garioch, which they sought to hold against the claims of the earldom of Mar. The family were local, appearing in the region around the time of King David.
Numerous families of the name are also found in England and Scotland, but this particular line is most associated with Aberdeenshire. This is a genealogical and historical account which includes material on the Blackhalls of Garioch, Barra, the city of Aberdeen, and Finnersie. As well as containing substantial materials relating to legal actions involving the extent of the lands of the earldom of Mar.
This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
