The full title of this book is: 'A History and Genealogy of the Bards of "Carroll's Delight", together with a Chronicle of the Bards and Genealogies of the Bard Kinship', written by G.O. Seilhamer in 1908.
The Bard family includes a large number of variant spellings of this name, including Barde, Baird, and Beard, and the precise meaning of the name itself is described in a variety of different ways and from many different directions. This, though, is a history of the extended family from its possible Italian origin to its known presence in Scotland and its involvement with the feudal monarchy and later, with the emerging national monarchy in Edinburgh. By the late 17th or early 18th century, the Bards also were settled in Ireland, and it is from this Irish period that the Bards who settled in the United States acquired their Irish or later Scots-Irish identity. The majority of this history, however, concentrates upon the Bards in America.
There is extensive historical and genealogical information drawn from primary and secondary sources relating to the Bards in America, with chapters on the family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, New England, and Ohio, as well as the southeast. Overall it is an exhaustive account of the family in the United States, with an enormous amount of genealogical information on the Bards and their related families.
