This collection of all available indexes to SA Police Gazettes (1869-1947) contains approximately 600,000 names

This is a large file (292MB) so may take some time to download

Police Gazettes are an unrivalled source of information on police, criminals and victims of crime. Though for a long time they have been inaccessible to the public, you can now find the physical details on persons listed; missing, wanted or released – this all helps to paint a picture of them (name, aliases used, age, height, colour hair, colour eyes, distinguishing features, even colour clothing worn).

As the records are very extensive it is not easy to determine which gazette may contain information on your ancestor. This collection of all available indexes to the South Australian Police Gazettes (1869-1947) makes that much easier. Once you have located a year of interest you can follow the full details up in the actual gazette.

This product contains high quality scanned images of the original indexes, and has been bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.

Found this to be very helpful, was able to narrow down people by Decade or under other areas like Inquests, Stealing, Missing friends, which reduced time spent looking for them, Thanks.

When I saw this was free from my email, I pounced on it, as I quite often refer to these files and what made it even better was, that it was the whole Compendium Index of all the Gazettes'.
This saves one from purchasing the complete set by just looking up your search for a particular person, noting the year and giving you something to work on.
Once again thank you to the staff Gould Publications.
    Wayne Cheeseman.
