Are you researching your ancestors in South Australia, and you really don't know what types of records are available, or where to look for them? Here is the answer ... 'South Australian History Sources' will not only advise you of the types of records available, but also the information you can find on them, and where they are located.

'South Australian History Sources' was produced in 2007, and there's been a lot of changes to records and availability in that time. This 2nd edition contains indexes to digitised records of service personnel who enlisted for all military conflicts since the Boer War, ship's passenger lists, school teachers, credit selections for land, probate material and a host of other records. Web addresses have been given wherever possible.

The previous edition of the book, produced in 2007, proved itself to be the 'bible' for researching local, biographical and family history in South Australia, and with it now updated, it will continue to be a useful resource for South Australian researchers.

All the state, commonwealth and church archival repositories are covered, plus a number of other repositories of which many will be unaware. Each chapter covers a different type of record. You will find information on the following:

  • Civil Registration Records
  • Church and Religious Records
  • Education Records
  • Land Records
  • Local Government Records
  • Military Service Records
  • Employment Records
  • Health Records
  • Welfare Records
  • Law and Order Records
  • Parliamentary Papers, Gazettes etc.
  • Newspapers
  • Migration and Shipping Records
  • Census Records
  • South Australia Photographers
  • Directories, Almanacs, Electoral Rolls and Telephone Books
  • Cemetery and Funeral Records
  • Probate Records
  • Other Records including adoption, change of name, fraternal societies, naturalisation and more

This is the publication that all who are researching in South Australia (genealogists, social historians, or local historians) will need to consult to help them with their search.

This has SOOOO much that I am having quite a time with it. I decided that I will record the salient points for the members of my maternal grandfather's family before I can delve into the book's sources.

A well researched reference book to use before jumping into records. Andrew Guy Peake has put a lot of work into this updated edition (2019). Easy to follow.

Gould Genealogy & History packaged this book very well and it arrived in excellent condition.
