These documents were found among the papers of the family of Mackay of Bighouse. They provide detailed information on local as well as regional and national affairs from the 1680s through 1808, but they are particularly informative on matters pertaining to the first half of the 18th century. The materical on the Campbells of Barcaldine, a cadet line of the Glenorchy Campbells, is especially useful, with vast quantities of genealogical and biographical material on that family. There are numerous letters on Jacobite activities between 1688 and 1745, on Allan Breck, on the activities of local families with regard to the government and the Jacobite movements, and on the families of Mackay of Bighouse and Skibo, as well as on the Campbells. There is as well material on the Campbells in the American Revolution and on the activities of the regiments there in the period between the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.

This CD consists of scans of the original bookwhich can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
