'SAS: A Pictorial History of the Australian Special Air Service 1957-1997' was published to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the formation of the Australian SAS.
From the first chapter in which Major General Neville Smethurst encapsulates the early days of the unit to the last chapter, in which the Blackhawk tragedy of 1996 is a finale, the book details in over a thousand pictures the day to day life of the Australian SAS Soldier.
After being out of print, this title is now back in print as a fascimilie of the original, and on USB. Containing scanned images of the original book, it is fully searchable, as well as bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be browsed, enlarged and printed out if required. This is a useful resource for military historians as well as those with special interest in the Australian Special Air Service.
Mick Malone, who edited the work, served in the SASR from 1967 to 1992 from Trooper to Captain with postings to the Royal Military College Duntroon (WO2 Field Wing) to RSM of 1st Commando Regiment (awarded OAM 1989).
