'SAS: A Pictorial History of the Australian Special Air Service 1957-1997' was published to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the formation of the Australian SAS.

From the first chapter in which Major General Neville Smethurst encapsulates the early days of the unit to the last chapter, in which the Blackhawk tragedy of 1996 is a finale, the book details in over a thousand pictures the day to day life of the Australian SAS Soldier.

After being out of print, this title is now back in print as a fascimilie of the original, and on USB. Containing scanned images of the original book, it is fully searchable, as well as bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be browsed, enlarged and printed out if required. This is a useful resource for military historians as well as those with special interest in the Australian Special Air Service.

Mick Malone, who edited the work, served in the SASR from 1967 to 1992 from Trooper to Captain with postings to the Royal Military College Duntroon (WO2 Field Wing) to RSM of 1st Commando Regiment (awarded OAM 1989).

High quality scanned images of the original volumes, with Fastfind search and bookmarking for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.

Having served 2 tours in Mogadishu under ASC UNOSOM I am preparing a historical collection of DVD and Journal encompassing the efforts of approx. 233 Tri-Service personnel which includes a troop of SAS soldiers under J Troop. This history book incorporated a story by Sgt Gibson SAS Commander of J Troop. This story will be published in our Journal as an excellent example of what the SAS can and do. This Troop was the first to be deployed since Vietnam days in itself a piece of history in the making. I thoroughly recommend this history book covering the SAS from the 1950’s to everyone.
