TWENTY-FOUR years ago, Harold Standen was a member of a brass band that met every troop train arriving at Murray Bridge and entertained the returning troops at the station. Today, in the second world war, Harold devotes a good deal of his spare time playing in orchestras which are helping to entertain members of the forces stationed in South Australia. In addition, he is doing a lot of broadcasting, and is heard every week as percussionist in the 5KA studio orchestra.
South Australian-born Harold Standen has played all types of music-brass band, symphonic orchestra, early day jazz , and present day swing. In 1920 he was one of three drummers in this State who started to study and develop the technique of playing jazz....
