In Queensland 'The Real Property Act of 1877' which came into operation on 1 January 1878 provided that Applications to enter transmissions in case of death must be made and advertised in substantially the same manner as applications to bring land under the Act. The first entries under the heading Transmission by Death. Real Property Acts of 1861 and 1877 were published in the Queensland Government Gazette of 9 February 1878. The records in this database start from that date and continue up to and including 1940.
The information that appears in the database includes:
· name of deceased (male) address and occupation
· name of deceased (female) marital status, and if married, husbands name, address and occupation
· date of death
· name of claimant (male) address and occupation
· name of claimant (female) marital status, and if married, husbands name, address an and occupation
· date of will or other details e.g. Letters of Administration, As Administrator etc
· date and page number in the Gazette
This publication has almost 67,500 entries which reference over 200,000 names of deceased persons, spouses and claimants and can lead to unforseen discoveries about the deceased person.
