If you had family living in Queensland in mid the mid-1870s, have you thought of looking in Police Gazettes for information? These are a goldmine of information local, family and social historians. They were compiled to be distributed amongst the Police Force only, and contain details and information that can not be found anywhere else. Far from listing just those in the Force, you will find information on courts lists, inquest verdicts, lists of those arrested, escaped prisoners and persons, and listings of stolen items (and from whom).

A fascinating read for learning about the social history of the time, even if you don't have family there - it contains all issues that were produced in 1875 and 1876. Produced once a month, most of these issues are about 12 pages in length.
