From the Foreword
Part of the humanity of the story which interests me is the history in which it has been played out: rural Australian life pre-World War I, the modem missionary story in the colonial world, the Depression years in Australia, the advent of modem means of travel, the influence of the Sydney evangelical 'aristocracy', the rise of the strong leaders of the 1930s in religious and secular movements, the Australian experience of the Second World War, the post-War boom in church adherence and its subsequent decline, the theological debates and divisions of Evangelicals, and last, but by no means least, the baby boom!
