The Lyon in Mourning is a three-volume collection of journals, narratives, and memoranda relating to the life of Prince Charles Edward Stuart during and subsequent to the Jacobite rebellion of 1745-46. It was compiled by Bishop Forbes, a Scotsman born in 1708, who accumulated these materials both during and the rebellion itself and over the course of the next decades. It contains a vast quantity of material brought together over the course of a lifetime devoted to the Jacobite cause. The material recorded here often is rare or unique in nature, and is nowhere else preserved. Its publication long after the death of Dr. Forbes brought to the public an invaluable source of primary material on the Jacobite movement after 1745.
This CD consists of scans of the original books, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
