This is a study if the distribution of family names over Great Britain. It begins with English names, providing a listing in alphabetical order of general, common and regional names. General names occur in from 30-40 counties. Common names in from 20-29 counties, and regional names from 10-19 counties. Within those divisions, each name is presented with information on its spread and on variations of the name. These three sections are followed by a section on names particular or peculiar to a single county. Then there are separate chapters providing much of the same type of information on Welsh and Scottish names. However, the principal focus is on names found in England.

Scanned images of the whole of the original book, bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
