This monumental study of Clan Gregor is as near comprehensive a history of this family in all its branches as is likely to be found in the modern world. It begins with a discussion of the early origins of the clan and proceeds through the history of the family from the 13th through the 16th century. The second volume continues the history of the family through the turbulent days of the 17th century and into the complex world of the 18th century, when the Gregors were most famously associated with the Jacobite cause. Indeed, much of Volume 2 can be said to recount the activities and the trials and tribulations of this family as loyal supporters of the exiled Stuarts from 1688 through 1746. Naturally, there is extensive material on Rob Roy and his sons and on the fate of the Gregors until the end of the 18th century.
