Written by Arthur Limb in 1919, this book gives a brief history of the 10th Battalion of the AIF 'South Australias quota to the Australian Expeditionary Force'.
The Battalion was raised in August 1914 and on 20 October it embarked on s.s. Ascanius to its unknown but much conjectured destination. The history is not detailed but gives an overview of the main events during 1914 to 1918 in the Suez, at Mena, Gallipoli, Pozières, Gueudencourt, Bullecourt, Polygon Wood, Ypres, Passchendaele Ridge, and many other places.
'On Saturday night, 22nd July, the battalion left Sausage Valley and proceeded via Black Watch Alley to support the 9th battalion in the attack on Pozières.
On the morning of the 23rd, the 9th battalion met strong opposition. "A" Company, under Captain McCann, was sent to their assistance; their advance also was held by machine-gun fire, and Captain McCann wounded. A barricade was erected. "D" Company, under Major Giles, was then despatched to the help of "A."
The book includes numerous black and white illustrations, maps (Somme, Gallipoli, and Belgium), a Roll of Honour and a list of those who received Honours and Awards.
High quality scanned images of the whole of the original book, bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
