It included chapters beginning with the Romans, and continuing with chapters on religious houses; battles such as Stirling (1297), Falkirk (1298), and Bannockburn (1314). There is a substantial survey of Stirling Castle, as well as histories of the town of Stirling and events which occurred in the county, town, and castle into the 18th century.
The second volume includes parish-by-parish histories, with accounts of local historic sites, old county families, noble families, Rob Roy MacGregor, and lastly, extended chapters on the natural history, the economy, and land owners throughout the shire.
