The Genealogical Research Directory was first published in 1981 for the specific purpose of documenting the family name being researched in Australia and New Zealand. And then annually for many yeays. It also provides a means of overcoming duplication of research.

This directory has approximately over 50,000 names being researched by 3360 family historians. These are listed in alphabetical order, linked to contributing researchers from many countries.

It also has a feature article on the Chapman codes
