This interesting and unusual history is concerned with the southeast of Scotland and with several families who interacted with the Edgar family or who were involved in events associated with that family.

The first and primary focus of the book is upon the Edgars of Wedderlie, possibly a branch of the families settled in England in Berkshire and Suffolk. In Scotland the Edgars settled at Wedderlie, and generally in and around the city of Edinburgh.

There are sections on Edgar of Newtoun and Dunse, in Berwickshire, in Nithsdale, Annandale and Galloway, and in Fife, but the scope of the study is wider than just those regions and the material presented constitutes an impressive collection of primary information drawn from local and national records about all levels of this small but widespread Lowland and Border family.

Of particular interest is a section on James Edgar, who for nearly 50 years served as assistant secretary to the exiled King James VIII, son of King James VII who was driven into exile in France in 1688. For much of that time Edgar was the principal secretary in fact if not in title to the often- impoverished prince who claimed the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland.

This CD consists of scans of the whole of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
