This collection was formed by Walter Macfarlane around the middle of the 18th century, and was acquired by the Faculty of Advocates in 1785, to preserve it for the use of those in the legal profession in Edinburgh. Macfarlane had transcribed a vast quantity of familial material, which he had sought from prominent families of his day. Most of the history included dates from well before Macfarlane's time, and thus often is the best (if not the only) source of information on many families of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Balfour, Leslie, Maule, Mackenzie, Grant, Forbes, Fraser, and Mackintosh families are only a few of those for whom this collection is important.
This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
