This historical and genealogical account deals with several primary lines of this family, the first of which settled in Midlothian in Newton parish, east of Edinburgh, and a second in Biggar parish in Lanarkshire. There is material on the origin of the family and its residences in Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, and adjacent regions in the Border country. However, the primary emphasis of this book is upon the Edmonstones of Duntreath, who held lands in the parish of Strathbane in Stirlingshire from around the middle of the 15th century. It is their
history, both local and national, that is most fully detailed.
