This is a genealogical history of the Simpson family stretching over both time and space from Scotland on to America. It begins with a discussion of the origin of the name and its beginnings in Scotland, but then quickly moves to an account of the migration to northern Ireland and the family's immigration to America, initially to Pennsylvania. The book also is concerned with the interactions of the Simpsons and the Frasers, and most importantly, the history of Jonathan Simpson of County Derry in Ireland. It includes an account of Simpson families from Scotland and Ireland who settled in New England and in New Jersey, and in detail in Pennsylvania, where the concentration of Simpsons is investigated county by county. It then continues with a study of the Simpsons who moved to Ohio, particularly to Jefferson, Harrison, and Richland Counties, and it concludes with an account of related families, including Hout, Hale, Stringer, Potts, Thesuver, and Dawson.
