What happened in Australia back in 1962? Most people aren't likely to remember.
Ron Williams has created this series to record the events that made news in Australia year-by-year. Each volume in the series describes the happenings that affected people, real people, and is designed to make you remember and wonder at things you'd forgotten or didn't know about. They're also designed to get the older (and younger) generations talking about the past to rediscover heritage that otherwise would be forgotten.
So what did make news in 1962? Hitch-hiking was still safe for all concerned, it was generally conceded that doctors would refuse home visits at night, and the wonders of the Pill were being extolled, and condemned. Terylene swimsuits for men were being exposed, there were some people who were suggesting that a link between smoking and cancer of the lung, and death of cracker-night was great relief to dogs. Many people were concerned that we were being Americanised. They would prefer the current Pommification. Most people still hated the Japs, but there were occasional voices urging acceptance.
Please note this book is filled with articles from the year, not photographs,
