It often gives latitude and longitude, populations, proximity to other towns, local industries, services such as coach and mail runs, hotels, churches, schools and much more.

EXAMPLE OF ENTRY:
"RIPLEY (Co. Grant), a small village in the parish of Balliang, and electoral district of S. Grant. It is situated on the Bacchus Marsh and Geelong road, and near the Little river on the N. side. The country is entirely agricultural and pastoral, and the population is small and scattered. It lies about 4 miles E. from the village of Anakies. The geological formation is upper volcanic."

Larger places have much more information. In addition this volume includes many advertisements, themselves giving an insight into 19th Century Victoria.
