As You Were 1950—fifth in its line—has been made possible by the collaboration of the ex-Service men and women who have supplied the stories, articles, verse and drawings which appear in it.

Whilst many contributions still look back to earlier campaigns, a number of the forty-seven stories focus on more recent operations in Korea and Malaya. A selection of titles indicates the coverage of the volume – To the Beach at Dawn, Dinghy Adrift, Christmas in Changi, Undersea Work in the Navy, Anchored at Khor Khui, Day of Liberation, In a Repatriation Hospital, An Australian Over the Mohne Dam, The Bomb Droppers, Came the Cossacks, Korea 1950, Royal Australian Navy (Korea), Australian Military Forces (Korea), Royal Australian Airforce in Korea, and Royal Australian Airforce in Malaya.

On 31 August the first troops arrived in Japan from Australia and went into barracks at Iwakuni, 400 miles west of Tokyo. These troops, the first of the volunteers from the Regular Army, were drawn from the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, at Ingleburn, N.S.W., and all were in top condition after months of training. Aside from the speed with which they were organized and despatched, it was the manner of their coming that aroused interest. For these troops had left Sydney only a couple of days previously, and had been transported to Japan in the luxury of Qantas civil air-liners.

The eager Australian troops, a thousand strong, landed at Pusan in Korea on 28 September, and entrained for the hundred-mile journey to Taegu, where they spent the night bivouacked in a dry river bed near the town.

The book contains many illustrations and images, both colour and black and white, of battlefields, equipment, personnel and some of the more light hearted moments. It is a valuable resource and a great read for all interested in military history.

High quality scanned images of the whole of the original book, bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
