Police Gazettes are an unrivalled source of information on police, criminals and victims of crime. Though for a long time they have been inaccessible to the public, you can now find the physical details on persons listed; missing, wanted or released - this all helps to paint a picture of them (name, aliases used, age, height, colour hair, colour eyes, distinguishing features, even colour clothing worn).
As the records are very extensive it is not easy to determine which gazette may contain information on your ancestor. This collection of all available indexes to the New South Wales Police Gazettes (1866-1938 - with just a few years missing) makes that much easier. Once you have located a year of interest you can follow the full details up in the actual gazette. Coverage: 1866-1867, 1871-1881, 1883-1938.
This product contains high quality scanned images of the original indexes, and has been bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.

Official records
These indexes are a great resource for genealogists and because of the record’s origins they are official ‘diary’ entries which can seldom be disputed

NSW Police Gazette Indexes
Great source of information for family historians of publications which were never made available for public access.
